The Right Coast Interview + photos

The Right Coast is a local (Lancaster, PA) pop-punk band that cannot only rock, but are also really sweet guys.  They recently opened up for New Found Glory at the Chameleon Club and played an amazing set despite a few colds.  They have a four song EP so far as well as a few others on their myspace.  Although still unsigned, this band has the musical capabilities, personality and drive to be huge one day.  Give them a chance and they will surprise you.

Check them out at www.myspace.com/therightcoast.  If you sign up for their mailing list you can get their EP for free.

First off, can you guys say your name and what your part is in the band?
My name is Brandon and I play vocals.
My name is Eric and I play bass in The Right Coast.
I’m Curran and I play drums.
I’m John and I play guitar.  I also beat Brandon’s ass in Blitz everyday.
B: Incorrect, you suck.

When did you guys first begin?  And how?
B:  About a year ago.
C:  We have all been friends and we have had a bunch of member changes.  Eric just joined the band.
B:  Curran hates everything, he used to hate me.
C:  Brandon and I were in competing bands.  So we thought why don’t we just join forces.  I was always drumming and he was always playing guitar and singing.  We have just been in bands for years.  We knew John through mutual friends, he was the merch guy for Just Surrender for a while.  And then we knew Eric through mutual friends and mutual bands.  And now we are The Right Coast.

How did you guys get your name, The Right Coast?
B:  It was actually our old bassist that made the name.  It’s pretty much just the east coast, but using right instead of east.

Are you guys all from Lancaster?
B:  Nah, just me and Curran.  The other two are from Philly.
C:  We went to Penn Manor and Millersville.

What is your favorite song to perform live?
C:  Shake This Town.  It is the most fun song to perform live.  I don’t think it is our best, I don’t think it is our favorite, it is the most fun to perform live.  It has the most energy and it has some cool parts in it.  It is actually really meaningful.  We just posted a blog with lyrics and you can read them, and learn them.
B:  I like This is Now too.  And Madeline cause I get to get away from these guys and do stuff by myself.

What are your plans for the next few weeks?
B:  Well tomorrow we are supposed to go to shoot a music video..
C:  Shoot a music video in New York, but our producer is super busy so I don’t know if that is happening.  And then we have a college show or two in West Virginia.  And then we are gonna finish tweaking our new record for like four or five days.  Then we are recording for like seven days.  Then we are out until Thanksgiving (on a headlining tour).  We have four or five days off and finally out until Christmas.
B:  And we are gonna eat turkey!
C:  So we are doing the west coast and full US.

If you could play a show with any band who would it be?  And why?
B & C:  New Found Glory.
All:  Third Eye Blind.
B:  The Goo Goo Dolls, Eddie Money, Elvis Presley
E:  Queen
C:  We are always asked what our dream tour would be and it’s Third Eye Blind for me.  Eddie Money or Elvis for Brandon.  Queen for Eric.  And Motley Crue for John.
B:  I would like to play a show with Blake Lively even though she doesn’t sing.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened on stage?
C:  I spit every night and intentionally try and spit at them.  Have you ever hit anyone?  Oh ya.  It’s just funny cause I will be playing and I’ll get really dry mouth.  And we are always sick cause it’s wintertime.  So I will cough or something, and I’ll have to spit it out.  So I will find a point in the song where I can spit it out and then spit it.  And it’s one of those where Brandon will back up and I’ll almost hit him.  It’s kind of a comical.
B:  I did a backflip one time and fell off stage, into the crowd.  It sucked, I knocked like nine microphone stands over.
J:  I almost fell off stage in Boston.  I also put my hand in my mouth last night.
B:  I jacked my head on a speaker.
